The teardrop shape of a slip hone is for the feel of the sharpener and does not enhance the performance of the hone. This XL hone will not slip out of your hand.
Hone your skates with a course or medium stone prior to sharpening. Starting out with a clean edge makes a big difference.
After sharpening finish the blade off with a medium or fine stone.
